What You Need to Know

Best Time to Cruise

The Alaska cruise season runs from May to September, with peak season in June and July offering the longest daylight hours and warmest temperatures. May is ideal for snow-capped scenery and fewer crowds, while August and September bring autumn colours, salmon runs, and increased chances of seeing the Northern Lights. Most itineraries are 7 nights, though extended Cruise-Tour combinations add 2-6 nights on land.

What to Expect

Cruisers sail the famed Inside Passage through glacier-carved fjords flanked by temperate rainforest. Highlights include calving tidewater glaciers at Glacier Bay National Park or Hubbard Glacier, whale watching in Frederick Sound, and wildlife encounters with bears, eagles, and sea otters. Key ports include Ketchikan (totem poles and salmon), Juneau (Mendenhall Glacier and whale tours), Skagway (Gold Rush history and the White Pass Railway), and Sitka (Russian heritage and rainforest trails). Many itineraries sail one-way between Vancouver and Seward or Whittier, with options to extend into Denali National Park.
